Who I Am

A corduroy, morning, shades of mustard and wine loving girl.
Oh hey there - I'm Paris. I’m based out of Margaret River, WA and I’m drawn to this place because it suits my laid back nature. I live by the ocean with my partner Tom and our very ancient golden retriever, Hugo. I’m up with the sun and in the sea every morning, and love having picnics with loads of cheese, hummus and red wine (name a better combo?).

I'm passionate about capturing people's legacies, their memories, the one thing that will stick around for years and not go out of fashion or fade away.

I love starting my mornings with cold water, bare feet and salty hair, followed by a long black or almond milk flat white depending on the mood. I’m a very calm and easy going person, except if there’s a spider/cockroach in the house. I spend a great deal of time trying not to kill my house plants, and I think I’m doing a pretty good job lately. I love cooking, and will pop out the champagne any time it looks like there’s something to celebrate (like making it to Wednesday). One of my favourite things about shooting weddings is getting the opportunity to steal an Arancini ball during canape hour (there are obvs lots of others but this is #1). No matter how old I get, the first thing I do when I get to my mum’s house is check the fridge. I’m passionate about capturing people exactly the way they are, in a candid and relaxed way.

I want to capture you guys being yourselves amongst the people you love - all of the grins, toasts, misfits, kisses, grandmas, tears, groovers and every single little, and not so little moment that makes up your wedding day.

"Composed of singular, minimal moment, you get the sense from the photography of Margaret River based Paris Hawken, that every image is the first line of a story that reaches fruition in the heart. Inceptions of memories and captured beauty, her love for her art form is palpable, and if it takes one to know one, immortalising love in a frame is the epitome of what she does best."

"Her photography washes over you, subtly immersing you in her hypnotic aesthetic, as she draws inspiration from her natural surrounds to capture intimate portraits and wild landscapes with a signature softness that seeps from each frame. Expect dappled light and dancing shadows; each shot a blissful concoction of beautiful moments quietly captured."

My person, Tom

We live together in a little ocean side town called Prevelly, along with some awesome housemates and our dog Hugo. I love to cook for Tom and in turn he balances out my extremely underdeveloped practical side with his technical mind. We are found at the beach most of the time, mucking around and laughing at our hilarious impersonations. I'm also lucky enough to have him as my second shooter at weddings.

Hugo

Our secondhand lion, and real life angel. We were lucky enough to adopt Hugo into our family three years ago, when some friends moved overseas. He is around thirteen now, or in other words he’s a ninety-six-year-old man. Hugo is powered off pats, that’s where all his joy comes from. Since getting this gorgeous boy, I've realised that a big part of owning a golden retriever is living with tumbleweed balls of dog hair floating around the house. I couldn’t be happier.

Ocean treasures

I’m a little obsessed with collecting seaside treasures I find on my beach walks, and then photographing them. I think they’re the most beautiful things in the world.

Travel

Sipping coffee and watching people flow by in Parisian cafes, wandering through cactus filled desert plains in Arizona, getting lost in the thick jungle of the Mentawais. The world is sublime and strange and crazy and I can’t get enough of it. I’ll be forever travelling, next I am thinking California, Canada or maybe Greece and Italy!

Learning

I’m always trying to improve on my skills, and gain new inspiration by attending workshops. My favourite so far was the Alpine North West workshop in Scotland, where we spent a week immersing ourselves in new knowledge from our mentors, and shooting in the wild Scottish landscapes! It was such an incredible experience (but I still don’t like whiskey).

Margaret River

Our little town is the best place in the world. We're surrounded by incredible coastline and it’s easy to find a place all to yourself, the water is pristine and not far from beautiful forests. Even the most mundane outings like a drive to the dentist can’t put you in a bad mood, because the drive is so beautiful! I am so grateful to call this place home.
